Dear Colleagues,

The Scientific and Editorial Board of the Emergency Medicine Scientific Journal „Halo 194“ primarily places emphasis on knowledge and ideas, which is why we publish articles on a broad spectrum of subjects. We lean towards publishing articles written not only by professors and academics, but also by young experts and leading professionals from regional healthcare institutions.

Treating emergency medical conditions is an absolute priority in all healthcare systems. Emergency Medicine isn’t a simple collection of emergency medical conditions from various medical fields, but rather an urgent approach to treating life-threatening conditions. The Emergency Medicine Specialty has had a very turbulent past: starting with a war to turn theory into practice, then to find a balance between prevention and intervention, implement the most up-to-date globaly accepted guidelines, all with the ultimate goal of prolonging an individual’s life.  All of us, the children of Emergency Medicine, are taught to strive for three things: to be satisfied with even the smallest of victories, to always strive for great success and to fight with all our strength for what we want. Still, in the everlasting battle to find our place in the wide array of medical specialties, we sometimes need to turn back. We may unexpectantly be touched, in the rush of our daily lives, by the Hippocratic Oath and sent back, even for a moment, to the grand beginning when we were our real selves – the Doctors of Medicine.

The calling we selected will break some of us, while forcing the others to face their darkest fears, secrets and dreams. In the arena where life and death face each other every day, the most brilliant Emergency Medical Service doctors fight desperately and unscrupulously for the greatest prize of all – a human life. The moto we all uphold is that human life has no price.

Baring witness each day to such enthusiasm, dedication and thirst for knowledge, we are convinced that Prehospital Emergency Medicine is looking at a great future. We expect to upgrade the Emergency Medicine Institute, Belgrade website, enabling efficient and state-of-the-art communication among all our readers.
